Today was the first day back from Thanksgiving break.
This morning started with a whip as always and then we went into a FLVS block. I read a lesson in Algebra and then we went to brain break.
At brain break we played octopus tag and did a relay race.
After brain break we did a PBL block. During our PBL block we talked about what is to come in the next 3 weeks and then we started out discussion on Fredrick Douglass.
I really liked the Fredrick Douglass discussion today. I really got us all thinking and it gave us the chance to think about our answers and respond to others. This type of discussion, I think, will work really well when people start to travel.
After PBL we had lunch. Most of us went to summer kitchen becuase today was their last doy open for the rest of the season. No more Connor Roll-ups :,(
After lunch we played kickball and the Butterflies of Hope won today 7 to 6.
After kickball we went to music. We decided we were going to start perfecting songs this week. Today we worked on Your Not Sorry by Taylor Swift.
After music we went into another PBL block and Leah, Alex and I started on the corrects given to us by the experts we emailed last week.
Now doing reflection and about to clean!

Reflections - November 18, 2010
This morning started out with community time. The Whip today was "Was what was your worst nightmare?" I said the nightmare about my mom getting eaten by a bear.
Then we went into a FLVS block. This morning I started an algebra 2 honors test.
Then it was Brain Break. We played tongue and the middle schoolers picked Octopus Tag today.
After Brain Break I worked on my Algebra test and finished it and then started on my Civil War project with Alex and Leah. We finished the presentation today wooooo! I think it looks very good and will be interesting watch.
We then had lunch and went to tennis. Today was the last day of tennis until the spring :(
After tennis I submitted an algebra pretest and finished reading a chemistry lesson. I had a check out with Mrs. Amy and wrote the email to send to the experts about our project. Now about to clean, go home and do more FLVS since I am leaving for Ohio on Saturday morning. But the best part of this day is yet to come! almost the whole school is going to go see the midnight premier of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 tonight!!! ahhhhhh I am sooooo excited!!!!!

Reflections - November 15, 2010
Today I came at 10:00 this morning. I had to take my new puppy to the vet and pick up Elvis and Bella to the groomer.
I came to school and showed the school my new puppy and then we went to Brain Break. It was the middle schoolers turn to chose the game today. We played Statue and Octopus Tag (courtesy of the middle schoolers).
After Brain Break we went into a PBL block. Mrs. Amy talked to us about our schedule and where we need to be at the end of the week. After that meeting Leah and I worked on our project. We planed out what information goes where, how to add audio, and how to have the Prezi auto play. Today we also found our expert. His name is Brooks Simpson. He is a professor at Arizona State University. We are using this expert because he wrote a book on Abraham Lincoln's view on slavery.
After PBL we went to lunch. Most of us went to Summer Kitchen for lunch and then we went to kickball. The Dominators won today 6 to 5.
After kickball we watched Channel One and there was a segment on Harry Potter! After that we went to music.
At music we played Your Not Sorry, Back to December, and I Love Rock and Roll. It was a good music day!
After music we had our book discussion. We talked about the pros and cons of being a city slave and a plantation slave. Then we had a debate on if it would be better to be an uneducated slave or an educated slave. The elementary kids judged us and 2 we for each side so it was a tie. I really liked that discussion I just wished we had more time to debate.
Now about to clean and go home and do school since I did not sign on to FLVS today.

Reflections - November 10, 2010
This morning started out with my doing some more to complete a algebra project. Then I helped Hunter with her algebra project.
At Brain Break we played Sharks and Minnows. Today the high schoolers got to pick the second game and we chose relay races. We did skipping and running backwards.
After Brain Break we had a PBL block. We worked on our Hybrid Car presentation today (FINALLY!) and we are going to informally present our process and project. Then Alex, Leah and I worked on our Civil War project.
Then it was lunch time! I had some yummy Butternut Squash Bisque today! We then played kickball. We went back to the original teams. The Butterflies of Hope and the Dominators. The Butterflies of Hope won 6 to 5.
After kickball we talked about the problem of how we have had some noise complaints about our music. We then decided to brainstorm some ideas about how we can fix that problem. We came up with "expensive" and "cheep" ways to do this.
Then we went to music. We played TNT and Gives you Hell again today. We are gradually perfecting each song and we are starting to sound really good!
After music worked on my algebra project some more and helped Hunter again on her algebra project.
Now about to clean and go home to an afternoon snack of Pecan Pie for Fatty Patty's. Yayyy! :)

Reflections - November 9, 2010
This morning I started an algebra project. At brain break we played One Footed Steal the Bacon chosen by the middle schoolers. After Brain Break we had a PBL block.
Alex was back today so she was working on the project with Leah and I. Today we started the Abraham Lincoln portion of the project. I think this project is going to great but I think it is going to take a long time to make.
We then went to lunch. After lunch we went to tennis. Thursday is our last tennis lesson and I know that we are all going to miss it.
After tennis I worked some more on my algebra project.
The elementary kids made some "goop" made out of water and corn starch. The goop turns from a solid to a liquid when you apply force to it. It wa sprobably the coolest "goop" I have ever seen.
I sent Randy 2 clips of the day today. One was the trailer for the movie Somewhere Near Tapachula the other video is the into to the movie Bag it. I saw both of these movies at the Telluride Mountain Film Festival this past weekend and they are awesome!
Now about to clean! What a terrific Tuesday!

Reflections - November 8, 2010
What a day! This morning I finished reading a honors algebra lesson then got started on the assignment.
We then went to Brain Break. At Brain Break we played Tongue and Blob Tag.
After Brain Break we did a PBL block. We did a Whip to start to block off. Leah and I talked about what we are going to be doing to day and then we shared it with everyone else. I was very surprised at how much we have accomplished in just a couple of days. Today we finished our outline, started our Prezi and documented some more sources. It was very productive! I am so excited about our project! I think it is going to be awesome!
After the PBL block we went to lunch. At lunch I showed Randy and Amy a trailer for a movie that I saw this past weekend called Somewhere Near Tapachula. Then we started to talk about how it would be great to have movie afternoons where we watch all the really cool, inspiring, cultural, educational movies that we happen to see in our day to day lives.
After lunch we went to kickball. After kickball we went to music. Today was an awesome day at music! We played TNT by ACDC and we all kind-of forgot Gives You Hell so we had to relearn that today but it was a very successful day at music.
After music I did some more algebra, got organized and did some cleaning. The clip of the day was from WipeOut and was soooo funny! Also Mitchell's Poem of the Week was amazing! Great job Mitchell!

Reflections - November 5, 2010
Today was not a very productive day. I read some H.O.P.E. lessons and I brainstormed some ideas on how to finish my paper.
Today we had a book discussion on the Fredrick Douglass book. We talked about the points in the book that were most striking to us. I really liked the discussion that we had about the book. I liked how we aall had time to state our opinions on different subjects multiple times. I think that the protocal today was very good but I would like to try other things to see what I like best. After our discussion Mrs. Amy told us that we are reading up the chapter 11 next week.
About to start cleaning and go home and do a lot of FLVS!

Reflections - October 27, 2010
Today was a very crazy day. This morning there were so many moms in and out of the school! They were all working on the scarecrOHs for the weekend! Today was a very unproductive day other than that I started my chemistry test. We were all in and out all day. After school I worked on the ScarecrOHs with some of the moms and students.
Reflections - November 1, 2010
It is the first day of November and I am still wearing shorts to school! This weather is crazy! Today I read a very long lesson in Algebra! At brain break we played Heads Up 4 Up and Duck, Duck, Goose. After brain break the high school students had a PBL meeting on what was going to be happening the next 3 weeks. At that meeting we came up with some essential questions for our next PBL project and chose one. I am going to be doing the project with Alex, Leah, Kylie and Hunter since we all chose the same essential question. After that meeting we had a community meeting about kickball. We are now playing with positions. After that meeting we went to lunch. After lunch I did not play kickball but I watched with Randy, Amy, Leah, and Alex. When we got back form kickball we went to music. At music today we learned another new song, Back to December by Taylor Swift. After music I went back to Algebra and submitted the assignment that went along with the lesson that I completed this morning. I am now working on a chemistry lesson and about to start cleaning. It was definitely a manic Monday here at OH!

Civil War PBL Project: My Essential Question
This morning the high school PBL students sat down with Randy and Amy and came up with essential questions for our Civil War PBL project. I chose the essential question:
"How did Abraham Lincoln's decision to change his view on slavery affect the outcome of the Civil War?"
The other people that chose this essential question are Alex, Leah, Kylie, and Hunter.
